Bullets hit home

You should always try to present lists of facts or information as bullet points. They are far more effective – people like lists!

Here are seven facts, presented in two different ways. Which do you feel more comfortable reading?

Method 1:

The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is the most successful franchise ever. It took over $1.8 billion at the box office, and generated more than $3 billion including merchandise and DVD sales. The films netted a total of 26 Oscars over their 3 year release schedule. The location filming lasted over 300 days, following which over 4000 CGI visual effects were added during an eight-year production schedule.

Method 2:

  • Lord of the Rings: most successful franchise ever.
  • $1.8 billion at the box office.
  • $3 billion revenues in total.
  • 26 Oscars.
  • Filmed over 300 days.
  • Over 4000 effects shots.
  • 8 years in production.

In tests the overwhelming majority of people read, remember and act on facts presented in bullet points, compared with the same facts presented in a paragraph of text.

So use bullet points for any list of facts or key information. Bullet points are your friends.
